How to keep your siding looking like new!

While many vinyl sidings today are designed to be totally maintenance-free, they still become dirty, just like a freshly painted house, a new automobile or any product exposed to atmospheric conditions. Generally, your vinyl siding can be cleaned satisfactorily by using an ordinary garden hose to wash it down. If this doesn't do the job, try the following:

1. Get a soft-bristled, long-handled, car brush that screws into your garden hose.
2. Scrub it with this cleaning solution.
a. 1/2 cup laundry detergent
b. 2/3 cup of trisodium phosphate
c. 1 gallon water

In certain geographical areas where mildew may be a problem, substitute one quart of 5% sodium hydroxide (bleach) for one quart of water in the above formula.

If the house is extremely dirty, you should start washing from the bottom and go to the top, rinsing frequently. The cleaning solution should be left on the siding for several minutes before rinsing.

How to remove wallpaper the easy way!
There are several ways of removing wallpaper. First, you must know what surface you are working with. Steamers which can be rented have always been my favorite especially for plaster walls. You merely steam the paper and scrape off. You can use one of several stripping products, which you can find at your local paint and wallpaper store. There is a tool that you may use along with the strippers, which scores the paper for removal; these are best used with pretty solid under layers. If the wallboard was not prepared well before papering you may find that these tools may score your actual wallboard, which is something you don't want.
If the paper has been put up on well prepared walls or plaster you can even use vinegar and water.
To do the least amount of work possible, let the product do its work. Read the directions and don't rush the process. After the wallpaper is off, wash the walls with hot water to remove paste, or if the walls have been painted wash with sugar soap or trisodium phosphate, then lightly sand with medium grade sandpaper.
This is the time you will want to fill any holes or cracks. Do not sand new plasterboard (drywall) surfaces but seal with a coat of latex paint. It is recommended whatever your surface apply sizing for ease in hanging the paper and to make future stripping easier.

How to balance a ceiling fan!
Most ceiling fans come with clips and a small weight that you could attach to the top of the fan blade. If you don’t have these you can use a penny. Place the weight on each fan blade, successively and spin the fan by hand. This way you should be able to tell which fan blade is in most out of balance. After you determine the fan blade to attach the weight, you adjust the weight along the blade (by trial and error) after allowing the fan blades to get up to operating speed (electrically). The further away from the motor housing, the greater effect, so start out with the weight close to the motor housing

Did you know that you could save up to 25% on your energy usage with new Amazing Siding on your home?

Here’s some facts about insulation!
Insulation value is commonly referred to as resistance-value or R-value. R-value is the measure of a material's ability to resist heat flow. The higher the R-value, the more effective the insulation is in reducing heat flow. Insulation should be purchased on the basis of its R-value, not thickness or weight. One brand or type of insulation may be thicker or thinner than another. But if both have the same R-value, they will insulate equally.
R-VALUE
Heat flows naturally from a warmer to a cooler space. Insulation resists this flow of heat, and helps keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer, at less cost. It provides a thermal blanket around your home to reduce the amount of heat that flows out of, or into, your house.
Common building materials, such as wood, brick and concrete used in homes, do not have high R-values. Insulation is needed to supplement these materials in order to keep your energy use and energy bills as low as possible. For example, one inch of mineral fiber has approximately the same insulating value as 30 inches of concrete.
Many homes were built when insulation was believed to be more expensive than energy. But, people now generally recognize that specifying insulation in new homes, and re-insulating existing homes, is cost-effective.
